When My Body Finally Said "Enough Already"
About seven years ago, I was struggling… but I didn’t fully understand why.
I was self-employed — running my own business, managing my own schedule — doing all the things that were supposed to give me flexibility and freedom.
And yet, every single afternoon, I had to stop and take a nap.
Not because I’d had a long day.
Not because I stayed up too late.
Because a headache would roll in and completely take over — and the only thing that would make it go away was to lie down, go to sleep, and start over.
That was my “normal.”
What I didn’t realize at the time was that my adrenals were already in Stage 2 failure and heading straight toward burnout.
My body wasn’t being dramatic.
It was waving red flags in the only way it knew how — through fatigue, pain, and a very clear message: stop.

The Turning Point
I had put off getting real help for longer than I should have.
But when I finally did, I found an incredible applied kinesiologist — and I truly can’t overstate the difference she has made in my life over the years.
One of the very first things she helped me understand was this:
Inflammation was at the root of so much of what I was dealing with.
My body wasn’t broken.
It was overwhelmed.
And it needed me to start paying attention.
We began with food — something that felt doable.
Over time, I removed gluten, dairy (specifically cow’s milk), and corn.
And let me tell you… if you haven’t looked closely at labels lately, corn is everywhere. Corn syrup, corn starch, citric acid — it shows up in places you would never expect.
But as I made those changes, something pretty amazing happened.
I started losing weight — but not in the way you might think.
Not fat.
Not muscle.
About 12 pounds of pure inflammation.
My body had been holding onto it… and once I removed what was aggravating it, it finally let go.

It Didn't Stop at Food
So I started looking at everything.
Candles became diffusers (and the occasional candle I use now looks very different ingredient-wise).
Plastic started getting replaced with glass.
The microwave? Tucked away for only OCCASIONAL use.
Cookware changed.
Laundry products changed.
Personal care products changed — deodorant, body wash, even perfume.
I started choosing essential oils over synthetic fragrance… and paying a lot more attention to what I was putting on my body just as much as what I was putting in it.
Even the fabrics I wear and bring into my home became something I thought about more carefully.
To say things have changed would be an understatement.
But I can honestly say — every single change has been worth it.
What I've Noticed — And What Surprised Me Most
As I moved from perimenopause into menopause, something surprising happened…
There really wasn’t much to report.
I didn’t experience most of the things women are told to expect.
Those last few years of cycles were noticeably less painful and less disruptive.
Hot flashes? Rare.
Night sweats? Nonexistent.
And those daily headaches that used to completely derail my afternoons?
I VERY rarely get headaches anymore.
Even my cravings — especially for sugar — have almost disappeared.
Now, I’m not sharing this because I’ve “arrived” (I haven’t),
and I’m definitely not saying my path is the only path.
I’m sharing it because I’ve lived it.
The body responds.
And small, consistent changes really do add up to something significant over time.
Where Do You Start?
If you’re reading this and thinking, okay… but where do I even begin?
Here’s the honest answer:
You start small.
You don’t have to redo your entire kitchen, pantry, and bathroom this week.
Just pick one thing.
Maybe it’s reading the label on a candle.
Maybe it’s swapping out one personal care product.
Maybe it’s asking better questions — of your doctor, or even someone like an applied kinesiologist — about inflammation and what your body might be trying to tell you.
That whole “journey of a thousand miles” idea?
It’s true.
I started with headaches and a daily nap.
And now… here we are.
Still learning. Still adjusting. Still moving forward.
This Is Just the Beginning
I have so much more I want to share with you — the specific changes that made the biggest difference, the things I wish I had known sooner, and the simple, practical ways to make this lifestyle feel doable instead of overwhelming.
This space isn’t about perfection.
It’s about walking this out together.
